After years of being unhoused, Anna finally had the chance to find a home

Anna has been a resident at Community Action's Redwood Crossings site (A supportive housing complex for those experiencing chronic homelessness) since January 2021. Anna spent years without housing, traveling between Oregon and Colorado. After finding a support system in the community, Anna made the decision to stay in Oregon.

While at Redwood Crossings, Anna shared some of her significant life struggles with our staff. Anna wasn't able to find a job because she didn't have ID. She was struggling to navigate a legal name change, had two emotional support dogs in need of life-saving surgeries, and was battling her own mental health struggles.

Anna worked closely with MWVCAA’s Case Managers and the Salem Housing Authority to secure a Section-8 voucher. She worked tirelessly, searching and applying for potential units. After working side by side with her Case Manger through many housing barriers, Anna signed a lease to her new home on September 30, 2022.

Anna now lives independently in her own one-bedroom apartment in West Salem with her two dogs; Leo and Orion. The staff at Redwood Crossings are so proud of her success and feel confident in Anna's ability to continue her path towards self-sufficiency.

Want to take an active role in helping the residents at Redwood Crossings? Many of our residents are living on lower incomes and could benefit from some practical and comfort items. Physical donations can be dropped off at 4107 Fisher Road NE, Salem, OR 97305. Here are a list of the current needs:
